What is the Northeast Livestock Expo?
The Northeast Livestock Expo (NELE), a 501(c)3 organization, offers a unique opportunity for livestock producers to market premier breeding stock, meat animals, and participate in educational seminars to ensure food safety and quality farm products.
In addition, NELE brings together youth for a weekend-long learning experience as they exhibit livestock and develop related skills and knowledge through competitions such as youth shows, a youth cook-off, marketing and judging competitions. The general public is invited to see, learn about and gain a better understanding of livestock commodities and the agricultural industry as a whole.
The NELE Commercial Trade Show supports agricultural-related businesses by giving them the opportunity to exhibit their products and services. A variety of food vendors and the availability of on-site camping help to contribute to a great family-friendly atmosphere for a fun weekend of agriculture.
The Northeast Livestock Expo is traditionally held during the third weekend in May at the Windsor Fairgrounds in Windsor, Maine. NELE is a non-profit organization governed by an all-volunteer Board of Directors.
History of NELE:
In 2006, the Maine Beef Producers, Boer Goat Breeders of Maine and the Maine Sheep Breeders Association collaborated to create a multi-specie event that would help livestock breeders promote the genetic advancement of various breeds. Over the years, several other organizations have lent their support to expand the Expo to include equine, rabbits and fiber animals. Windsor Fairgrounds has allowed NELE to hold its event on the grounds since it first started.
The Expo continues to incorporate various aspects of agriculture during the third weekend each May.
Our Mission:
The mission of the Northeast Livestock Exposition (NELE) is to provide marketing, selling, and educational opportunities to local livestock producers and educate the public on the connection between local farms and their products.
